It's been more than 24 hours since I first tried an Espresso Oak Age Yeti Imperial Stout by Great Divide Brewing Company in Denver and have fought every temptation imaginable to keep myself from driving 200 miles round trip for another one (or two cases) of this beer. It is that good.
Coffee and chocolate are definitely a part of this creamy, complex stout that makes the mouth say "yum." Yeti is aged on oak chips with coffee added to this 9.5 percent beer but it's so well balanced there's little to no alcohol warmth typical of beer this strong. Black as night with a dark brown head.
Suggested food pairings include breakfast burrito, eggs benedict, hash browns, cheesecake and creme brulee. Lacking all of these, Christy and I paired ours with rare New York strip steaks and fresh green beans hot off our charcoal grill and baked potatoes with butter and sour cream. Yeti went well with the smoked food from the grill. Also tried it with a handful of candy corn. Excellent.
This has to be one of my favorite beers. Ever.
Next time I'm in the city, I plan to pick up enough Yeti to last a while.
