Christy's Ale

A weekend spent awaiting the results of the Iowa Brewers Union brought much more than a very good score for the stout I entered.
It also gave my wife Christy a greater appreciation of a wider variety of beers.
We spent Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday morning in Des Moines. Over the weekend we visited the competition itself, three Iowa brew pubs and (only) two different beer focused bars where we sampled more than 30 different beers.
We also visited Beer Crazy where I got ingredients for what I plan to name Christy's Ale. Christy's Ale is based on Raccoon River Brewing Company's Bandit IPA, a far more hoppy ale than Christy had fancied before.
Christy's Ale includes plenty of Cascade hops, 40L and 80L Crystal malt and Wyeast 1318. I'm anxious to see how it finishes.
I'm also anxious to see which other beers my wife enjoys. Seems since our weekend she's been more appreciative of the styles we've tried, including a stout and cream ale I've brewed, a chocolate stout picked up at Beer Crazy and Chimay also bought in Des Moines.
Maybe we need to get out of town more often.
