I've finally bottled a beer for competition. This afternoon I capped a stout I've been pleased with and slapped entry labels on a couple of bottles for the Iowa Brewers Union Open, which is scheduled for March 13 in Urbandale.
I've been brewing since 1998 but have never entered a competition before. I'm interested to find out just how close to style my brews are, especially this stout.
We — C and I — plan to head to Des Moines that weekend, not so much for the competition but because it's a good excuse to get away without the kids for the weekend. Of course there are a couple of brew pubs there I hope to visit, as well as guitar store or too and a blues bar downtown we're probably going to have to try at least one night.
Any excuse for beer and beer for any excuse, I say.
