Brown ale, er, I mean stout

My attempt at my first brown ale using leftover grains didn't quite finish true to style. I was hoping for something along the line of Newcastle but came far closer to Guinness.
The problem is, I believe, is the addition of the roasted barley. Even at just a 1/4 pound the 500-600L was just too dark and too bitter for a brown ale.
Even so it wasn't exactly a failure. I didn't get the the brown ale I'd hoped for but I did turn out a pretty damn good stout.
That's the joy of homebrew — even when you miss your target you still usually end up with something at least, as they say in the movie Fargo, pretty good.
